Meme from [livejournal.com profile] book_memes

1) Which five books are closest to you right now?
My Danish Bible, my English Bible, "The City of Dreaming Books" by Walter Moers, "Royal Exile" by Fiona McIntosh and "Prayer, Does It Make A Difference?"

2) How many books have you got 'on the go' (currently reading, or stalled)?
3 counting my audiobook:
"The City of Dreaming Books", "The Power of a Praying Wife" and "Dune" (audiobook).

3) Describe your ideal reading place.
A comfortable chair to snuggle up in, and a glass of wine and some chocolate within reaching distance.

4) Roughly (or exactly, if you're keeping count) how many books have you read so far this year? Are you taking part in a challenge?
I've just finished book 142 of this year :-) I'm taking part in several different challenges - too many to list them all.

5) If you were going on a long journey, would you grab your current read, or an old standby?
If I'm going on a long journey, I bring more than one book! Typically at least one current read (as I usually read more than one book at a time), unless I'm almost done with it, an old favourite, and a new book I've been wanting to read but haven't had time to yet.

For my 10 day trip to NYC I brought 5 books, and bought another 12 while I was there ;-)

6) Has the proliferation of sites such as Wikipedia or even Google curbed you of buying reference books on your favourite topics?
No, since I hardly ever bought reference books in the first place. It probably would if I had though.

7) Do you have an e-reader/kindle? How many books do you have on it?
I have a Palm that'll work as an e-reader as well. I have about 20-30 books on it, but only use it as an emergency backup - I prefer reading physical books.

8) If you get into a series of books, do you devour them all at once, or mix it up to make them last?
Depends on the series. Usually I devour them all at once on my first read-through, and then mix it up to make it last on subsequent rereads.

9) Which book has surprised you (pleasantly, unpleasantly, or just factually) most recently?
Not sure... I seldom have enough expectations about books to be surprised by them... not enough to remember anyway ;)

10) Recommend a book completely at random, to anyone who may be reading your answers.
"The Yada Yada Prayer Group" by Neta Jackson. One of the BEST books I've read in a very, very long time.
