Coming Up for Air - Patti Callahan Henry
After Ellie's controlling mother dies, Ellie finds her journal and discovers a side to her mom that she never knew. She travels to her mom's old friend's summer home to learn more, and becomes brave enough to face her marriage problems in the process. I really like this author's writing, but there are some common elements in her books that annoy me. For instance, the characters don't seem very torn about nurturing/rekindling close friendships with the opposite sex (often exes) while they (or the other person) are married or in a serious relationship. In this book, we were supposed to be upset at the husband for being so unreasonable at the fact that she was spending lots of time with her old serious boyfriend. But the story was fairly interesting and the setting was well-written. It also made me want to paint.
Cinder - Marissa Meyer
A Cinderella story set in the future where there are cyborgs, androids, and inhabitants of the moon. I had to ask a friend what cyborgs and androids even were (I thought both were just robots)--that's how unfamiliar these topics are to me. Several of you have read this and I was intrigued, but didn't think I'd like it quite as much as I did. I loved it! Read it! I'm now working on the second one in the series.
All My Friends Are Dead - Avery Monsen and Jory John
I won't count this in my total (since it takes about 30 seconds to read), but I just wanted to mention it because it's funny. My brother-in-law added this book to my gift and when I flipped through it I laughed out loud a couple of times. If you ever see it, take a minute to read through. It's just randomly funny.
Wow, for all the traveling and vacation time I had this month, I would've expected to read more. But I just wasn't feeling it, I guess! I also started a couple that I didn't want to finish.

[Poll #1950408]
I don't want to set a reading goal for 2014, but I would really like to make it to 50. I'd also like to read more as opposed to listening. I am thinking about switching my phone time for reading time before bed in hopes that it will also help me to get to sleep faster when I don't have the electronic light shining at me. We'll see. Do you have any reading goals for 2014?
