Okay, I know I'm a bit early for this, but I'm curious... those of you who are as geeky as me and keep monthly booklists, what were your Book of the Month(s)?
I know you can't really do December yet, so perhaps instead which book you're most looking forward to read over the Christmas break?
Here are mine :)
January: A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass - a fascinating book about synesthesia.
February: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. A YA fantasy along much the same lines as Twilight. I loved it!
March: Enchantment by Orson Scott Card. Loved the original retelling of Sleeping Beauty.
April: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. Extremely sweet and charming book.
May: The Giver by Lois Lowry. Actually, unless I read something really spectacular in December, this wins the prize of being the best book I've read all year. It blew me away.
June: The Sweetgum Ladies Knit for Love by Beth Pattillo. Just cozy with almost a Mitford-like atmosphere.
July: The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. I thought it was sweet :) And to my great surprise it made me want to knit!
August: Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb. The last book in the trilogy, and the one where everything got properly tied up. The entire series was great, but this definitely the best.
September: Secret of the Sirens by Julie Golding. A fun YA fantasy.
October: The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. Absolutely brilliant!
November: The Sweetgum Knit Lit Society by Beth Pattillo. Just a nice, cozy tale.
December: Looking forward to reading An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon. I received it for my birthday, but it's so long, that I doubt I'll have time for it before then.

Date: 2009-12-04 03:35 pm (UTC)Jan -- Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones -- one I'd heard about forever but wasn't sure I'd like, and I ended up loving it.
Feb -- Book of A Thousand Days by Shannon Hale -- I read the entire thing in one sitting because it was too good to put it down and go to bed. I kept thinking, "When I come to a good stopping point..." but never did.
Mar -- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins -- Intense and fast-paced and scary. Not at all my usual thing, but I liked it a lot.
Apr -- The Host by Stephenie Meyer -- a re-read, and still one of my favorites.
May -- The Sun in the Morning by M M Kaye -- Fascinating tale of childhood in India and England just after WWI.
Jun -- The Blue Castle by L M Montgomery -- another re-read, and also still one of my very favorites.
Jul -- The Thin Woman by Dorothy Cannell -- Funny pseudo-gothic mystery. Very fun!
Aug -- Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater -- nowhere near as good as Twilight, but touches some of the same chords of teenage romance with the supernatural thrown in.
Sep -- Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange -- just because it made me laugh so hard. I don't think September was a great month for reading, so it stands out.
Oct -- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer -- Another "not usually my thing" that I ended up loving. Sweet and heartwarming without being cloying or cheesy.
Nov -- Sylvester by Georgette Heyer -- Hilarious; I finally get the Georgette Heyer love. I've enjoyed her books in the past but this was the book where it finally clicked for me that she's a great author.
Dec -- I think I'm most looking forward to the stack of Grace Livingston Hill books someone recommended to me. I've only read one of hers before and didn't think I liked her much, but so far I'm really enjoying Brentwood.

Date: 2009-12-07 04:54 pm (UTC)Now I know where I first heard of Shiver! I knew I'd seen it on someone's journal but since I regularly lurk on half-a-dozen of my friends' friends' friends blogs I couldn't remember who'd mentioned it. But it was yours, I remember now, because you said you'd had an ARC and it wouldn't be available for the rest of us until later, so I had a post-it on my computer at work saying "Shiver Maggie Stiefvater Aug or Sept like Twilight" for months.
